History
A History of Outstanding Patient Care; By Dr. Marie Delcambre, President, KCIM
It is with great pleasure that I have an opportunity to share with you the “Story of Kansas City Internal Medicine” (KCIM). KCIM started as a typical small business story, where people start from the ground up and try to create a successful business, just like the thousands of small businesses that make up our country!
In June, 1980 three separate internal medicine physician groups collaborated on a project with a goal of improving medical care and adding convenience for their patients. Among these physicians were Drs. Ferris, Mueller, Layton, Biggs, Wilhelm, Johnson, Eubanks, and Black, all prominent, well respected internists in the Kansas City area.
Their efforts created Kansas City Internal Medicine, a large well run medical practice based at Research Medical Center with in-office laboratory and X ray facilities. At the time, this was a new philosophy in healthcare and patient’s loved it!
The legacy of excellent patient care has continued through the next 30+ years as KCIM has grown and evolved with the medical needs of the Kansas City community. Recognizing that patients loved the convenience that many of their medical needs could be accomplished through a single office, KCIM expanded provided services and locations to accommodate the growth in the suburban areas that were quickly growing around us. The group’s additional services include in-office EKG’s, bone density studies, a high tech medical laboratory, echocardiography, ultrasound testing, and intravenous infusion treatments.
Medical sub-specialty services were added and are available today included endocrinology, rheumatology, podiatry, and integrated medicine (acupuncture, educational services). KCIM is also pleased to have added in 2010, a Corporate Medicine Division to address the needs of local employers.
In response to the needs of our patients for more convenient locations, KCIM added offices at Menorah Medical Center in 1994, John Knox Village/Lee’s Summit Hospital in 2004, St Luke’s East Hospital in 2007, and St Joseph/Carondelet Hospital in 2008. Urgent Care services became available in early 2003 and are now available at all of our locations for easy access to high quality medical care in one’s own physician’s office. Now with 5 locations and over 40 providers serving 8 local hospitals, KCIM continues to grow with Kansas City and improve patient care, reflecting our devotion to providing the best care for our patients and a goal of excellence in all that we do.
KCIM’s history of outstanding patient care continues every day as we strive to evolve with the needs of our patients and the community in general. Our amazing staff remains the backbone of our practice. It is our honor to serve you and your family.
